Severance Season 2 Review

Man with balloons

Why aren’t you watching Severance yet?

Honestly, this show is my current obsession and working every day in an office doesn’t help that either. The second season of this show did something that a lot of shows try to do but ultimately fail at because it loses a majority of the viewers. It decided to dive deep into the back stories of the employees of Lumon and brought in new characters to help us learn more about the mysterious and important work the Macrodata Refinement department is up to. We see both the innies and outies romantic lives and boy, are they complicated. The two worlds are converging and honestly, I’m glad to see it.

In comparing the two seasons, I would say I preferred the first a little more until I got to the final episode of season 2. The first season had me guessing with every episode but this season was more like short vignettes of each character. Sure, there was the episode with the ORTBO (Outdoor Retreat and Team-Building Occurrence) that drove the tension levels up to 1000, but I just felt like the excitement of learning something new in each episode was missing. Again…that is until we get to the final episode.

That brings me to my favorite episode of the season, and it happens to be the last episode. Cold Harbor was everything and the whole season was building up to it. Honestly, any episode featuring Milchick being absolutely diabolical is the best episode. I can’t get over his awkward comedy routine with the Kier Eagan animatronic statue, and then the introduction of the Choreography and Merriment department? My soul left my body. This man is the embodiment of evil.

I’m thrilled that they decided to continue with a third season and I can absolutely see where they’re going with it. I will be patiently waiting for that season. In the meantime, I highly recommend you give both seasons a watch and see what all the buzz has been about. I can tell you it’s absolutely justified.
