As you can see from the homepage, I have a new story published in an anthology from Dreamweaver Press, a division of Twisted Dreams Press, called Tales from the Hearth. This collection features my story “You’ll Always Be a Child to Me” and 14 other campfire tales focusing on retelling folklore and childhood legends.

My story is about Lena, a young girl put in charge of taking care of her aging grandmother. When her friends question her grandmother’s superstitions and warnings, Lena dismisses them, claiming that she isn’t a child anymore. But when El Cucuy finds her alone, she realizes she, unfortunately, never stopped being a child in his eyes.

This story is sort-of autobiographical, however, I don’t have as much of a contentious relationship with my grandmother as Lena does. My grandma told me stories of El Cucuy when I was a kid to make sure I stayed in bed late at night, and of course, my overactive brain imagined him coming to eat me in the middle of the night. Sometimes I’d stare at piles of clothing in the corner and think El Cucuy was hiding in there…ready to snatch me up as soon as I did something bad. Creepy, right?
